Founded on Leap Day, 2024, The Falls Church Independent is an independent news publication dedicated to providing "fresh news, insights and analysis — with an independent streak — in and around Falls Church, Virginia."

Published by Christopher Jones, LLC of Virginia, our mission is to: "dig a little deeper to provide quality, community-minded journalism in Falls Church and beyond."

As a resident of Falls Church since the early 90s – where my wife and I bought our first home and raised our two kids – I'd like to draw on my skills and experiences to help serve our community by reporting, interpreting and providing insights on what's happening around us.

Having grown up in Arlington, I know northern Virginia and the nation's capital region well. Following 30 years of teaching history, social studies and journalism in the area, I retired from the classroom to pursue my passion for newspaper work. After a stint as a freelance writer for the Falls Church News-Press and other publications, I moved on to The Georgetowner in Washington, D.C. to serve first as a reporter and then, for the last several years, as the paper's Managing Editor. From 1997-2005, I also served in the U.S. Naval Reserve Intelligence Program.

Now I'm looking forward to getting to know our community even better – and keeping you more informed.
