Democracy Falls Church and Falls Church Indivisible Urge Community to Join 'No Kings II' Protests, Oct. 18
Following is based on a press release from Democracy Falls Church:
In June, people from all over America stood against the unconstitutional deployment of the military in Los Angeles. Since then, the militarization of our cities has only grown more brazen. We continue to witness the steady erosion of our democracy as the administration expands its unlawful occupations of U.S. cities.
On Saturday, Oct. 18, Falls Church Indivisible and Democracy Falls Church are asking our community to join the growing national movement saying loudly and peacefully: No Kings.
From 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., residents will form a human chain along Broad Street to stand for democracy, unity, and the rule of law. Bring signs and American flags to wave as well as an enthusiasm to protest with your neighbors. There will be a short kick-off at the Falls Church Episcopal at 115 E. Fairfax St., but our main goal is to cover all of Broad Street with protestors and signs.
This demonstration will be nonviolent, respectful, and lawful. Organizers have been working hard with volunteers and coordinating with local authorities to make sure the event is safe and family-friendly. We seek to demonstrate strength through peace and to model the democracy we hope to preserve.
After the local event, many participants will travel together to Washington, D.C., to join the national rally from noon to 3:00 p.m.
“No Kings” is more than a slogan — it’s a founding principle of this nation. From city streets to rural town squares, people across America are uniting to defend that ideal and to show that power still rests with the People, not with any one man.
In Falls Church and across the country, we’re showing we will not accept tyranny in any form. Join us — and help remind America what it means to say, truly and proudly, “No Kings.”

City's Housing Market Affected by Federal Layoffs, Gov't Shutdown, Uncertainty

The City of Falls Church's housing market has not been immune from the effects of recent federal workforce layoffs, a September Bright MLS report suggests, as the Little City's active house listings "spiked 488.9 percent [year-over-year], with 53 homes listed" in Sept., 2025.
The wider region is also feeling the pinch, especially with the ongoing government shutdown.
"This fall, the D.C. area housing market conditions are 'uncertain' amid changes to the federal workforce.... Home sales were up, but changes to the federal workforce could still leave the market on shaky ground," Northern Virginia Magazine reported, Oct. 14. The federal government shutdown has also dampened pending new home sales in the DMV which are "down 3.3 percent 'as mortgage rates stabilized and concerns about a federal government shutdown weighed on potential buyers.'”
"Inventory in the region remains elevated, with 10,993 active listings — a 39.1 percent increase from last year," Northern Virginia Magazine reported. "And homes are taking longer to sell, with an average of 21 days on the market, up 10 days from last year."
“The Washington, D.C., area has been disproportionately impacted by federal workforce layoffs and budget cuts and now faces the potential of a lengthy government shutdown,” the September Bright MLS report said, according to Northern Virginia Magazine. “Some buyers will be able to capitalize on lower rates and more inventory. Overall, however, expect slower home sales and softer home prices in fall amidst the ongoing uncertainty.”
Per the September Bright MLS report, the City of Falls Church saw median home sales prices drop 24.3 percent below last September – dipping below $1 million – to $939,000. The "median days on the market" figure for the City has also risen by 59 days year-over-year.
With uncertainty over interest rates, layoffs, tariffs, and the government shutdown, "pending sales" are also up 40 percent over last September, and "new listings" up 185 percent year-over-year.

Solunaah Launches in Falls Church, DMV, Offering Immersive Global Dance Experiences

First Pop-Up Series Begins October 15 and Features Afro-Influenced Dances from Bolivia and Peru, “Dance Around the World: Festejo and Caporales Combo Classes.”
Following is based on a Solunaah press release:
Solunaah, a new company dedicated to creating authentic experiences through global dance disciplines, announces the launch of its first series of drop-in classes in the Washington, D.C. metro area. In a region celebrated for its diversity yet facing the rapid disappearance of institution-backed cultural programming, Solunaah offers neighbors an intentional way to connect with each other's rich traditions — and an opportunity for serious and professional dancers to learn new ways of moving their body. Classes will be offered as pop-up events a few times each year.

Led by master performers in each discipline, Solunaah aims to both help experienced dancers enrich their repertoire and style, and for all amateur and beginning students to momentarily "travel" without leaving the dance studio. The one-hour, weekly drop-in format over the course of a month keeps experiences accessible and tailored to each dance sojourner. The inaugural October series consists of three classes and spotlights Afro-influenced dances from Bolivia and Peru: Bolivian Caporales and Peruvian Festejo.

Classes begin Wednesday, October 15, and continue on October 22 and 29 at Ballroom Asia/Step In Joys Dance Studio in Falls Church, Virginia at 7777 Leesburg Pike, #104 N, Falls Church.
One of Solunaah’s strengths is its instructors. Relying on the founder’s vast network and decades in dance, the team identifies award-winning and highly experienced dance teachers to lead each month’s experiences. October features renowned performers Shana Inofuentes for Bolivian Caporales, and Andrés Arévalo for Peruvian Festejo. Learn more about each on Solunaah’s Instagram account.
“These dance forms are cultural gems that carry deep insights into our history and identity. They honor our heritage, preserve our ancestral knowledge, and help us understand who we are as individuals and communities,” says the founder, a decades-long dancer with a background in modern Western, Latin, and Peruvian Folkloric, and West African disciplines. She dreams “of offering dance classes that are beyond the steps, where you can explore how these dances were birthed, understand their significance, and truly connect with their cultural essence.”
Unlike conventional classes, Solunaah's experiences provide authentic access to our cultures and peoples from both community and professional dance perspectives.
At a time when economic challenges limit travel opportunities and institutions are cutting support for such programming in workplaces and beyond, Solunaah represents a positive response. We create space for neighbors to grow together and connect through the powerful human experience of dance.
