As autumn leaves fall, are you ready to boost your color palette?

Forty-seven artists will exhibit 55 of their boldest, brightest pieces in Vivid!, an all-media exhibit, at the gallery at Falls Church Arts from Nov. 23 to Jan. 5. The show officially opens with a meet-the-artists’ reception on Saturday, Nov. 23 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. The Juror’s Choice Award will be announced during the program. The event is free and open to the public.

From Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C., Vivid! attracted 116 artists who submitted more than 300 works. Media featured in this show include acrylic, photography, oil, silk screen, mosaic, fused glass, watercolor, and mixed-media.

A Fitting Juror for Vivid!

Barbara Januszkiewicz, juror for the show, is a Washington, D.C.-based American multimedia artist, creative activist, and teacher known for her stained neo-Color field abstract expressionist paintings.

She “grew up in McLean, studied painting under Chinese watercolor master Mun Quan at Florida’s Jacksonville University and for three decades was an established illustrator, winning awards for watercolors depicting everyday objects in a lively, pop-art style…. She has taught adult watercolor-painting classes at the McLean Project for the Arts and served as an adjunct professor at the Corcoran College of Art & Design,” Home & Design reported.

“Januszkiewicz’s paintings can resemble Morris Louis's florals, yet her style is hotter, with a hint of the abstract expressionism the Color School abandoned," described The Washington Post

The Vision Behind Vivid!

Januszkiewicz describes what Vivid! is all about. "As a full-time artist and instructor, I know how impactful strong composition and intentional color choices can be. I was captivated by works that showcase these elements with clarity and boldness. This selection celebrates diverse visions from a talented range of creatives, each piece embodying a unique, vibrant expression."

"I greatly encourage the public to drop in and experience this collection of vivid work — it promises to be a stimulating and entertaining encounter with the power of visual art," Januszkiewicz continued. "This exhibit invites us to see color not just as a visual element, but as a force that shapes mood, message, and meaning in unforgettable ways — a testament to the enduring power of vivid expression in art."
